    MONTREAL (CP) - Canada will contribute $120 million to the global fight against AIDS, the Stephen Harper government announced Friday in choosing World AIDS Day to make the long-awaited funding commitment.

    Quite a video collection you gathered!The portuguese video was new to me.Never heard of it before or saw it before. We had several campaigns on TV and other media. In my opinion they were not very good.Each time I questioned if message was reaching the target. Later I remember an article in a portuguese newspaper about an impact study that someone did.And the result of it was that a lot of money was being spent in campaigns but they were not good enough. They don't inform, they don't raise awareness, they don't prevent aids.People don't change behavoiour.Isn't this terrible?

    In the federal budget this spring, the Conservative government set aside $250 million for the Global Fund over the next two years.

    While the money is welcome, Liberal MP Keith Martin criticized the Harper government for taking so long.

    "The WHO desperately needs these funds to carry on their good work," he said.

    Martin said the Harper government isn't funding anti-AIDS efforts as well as the previous Liberal government, which handed over $800 million from 2000 to 2005 to international AIDS organizations.

    Ron Rosenes, a spokesman for the Canadian Treatment Action Council, who has been HIV-positive for 25 years, said what everyone will remember about World AIDS Day this year is the Canadian government's lack of response in dealing with prevention and support in its own country.

    No one has forgotten that Harper was in the Arctic during the International AIDS conference and yesterday he was in Mexico, he said.

    "For the conference he was as far north as he could be, for World AIDS Day he's gone as far south as he could."

    In Africa usually it 's transmissed from Mother to child (MTCT)
    born with Aids..

    There is currently no vaccine or cure for HIV or AIDS. The Current treatment is too expensive for the
    poor. So..prophylaxis,campaign..
    the best medicine,until now.
